Title: The Giver

Author: Lois Lowry

Genre: Fiction

The book The Giver was about acting and living in a utopian world.  The main character, Jonas, like everyone else was to believe their lives were perfect.  Now Jonas is coming to find out that his ‘perfect’ world he lives in is after all, not so perfect!

In the story, the author wants the reader to understand the importance of what makes human beings human.  Without emotions, feelings, and choices we wouldn’t be human, and in the story they don’t have any of these things. I agree with the author that emotions and choices are a huge part in making us human because without those we wouldn’t act like humans, we would act something like robots.

I enjoyed most of this book, but parts of it were boring and it was easy to get off track when reading it.  I would rate this book at a 3 and a half because it definitely wasn’t the best book I’ve ever read, but not the worst.  At times the book was very interesting and I didn’t want to put it down because I always wanted to know what was going to happen next.  It’s funny because in the book they didn’t have any feelings but when you’re reading it you get your own feelings about what’s happening and you feel very sad or very surprised.  I would recommend The Giver to someone who enjoys reading books that are very make believe and at some points inspirational!
